Clinton campaign: After absence, Strickland and Tubbs Jones coming back
Six weeks ago today, Hillary Clinton won Ohio's presidential primary. She told a thrilled crowd in Columbus, "Thank you, Ohio!" And with that, Ted Strickland's job was done.
Well, not exactly. It's just that since helping Clinton beat Barack Obama by ten points, Ohio's governor has not appeared with Clinton again. No surrogate work for Strickland, either.
The same would have gone for congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, except for last weekend, she showed up in North Carolina stumping alongside Bill Clinton.
Tubbs Jones had to fend off criticism for not backing Obama in her own district during Ohio's primary. But what mostly kept her away afterward, says spokeswoman Nicole Williams, was the flu. "Her voice was gone," Williams said, and she was spending her time in Washington and resting.
She'll make appearances or do radio work for Clinton in the upcoming Pennsylvania (April 22) and Indiana (May 6) primaries, Williams said.
As for Strickland, he's likely to show up in West Virginia before its May 13 primary.
"He was an incredible spokesman for Hillary in the campaign in Ohio," says Clinton spokesman Isaac Baker, and Clinton hopes to get his help in upcoming races, "where we think he'll be equally effective."
